This entertaining and aspirational first cookbook from the Kosann sisters, cofounders of the New Potato, an online food and fashion magazine, takes readers through the authors’ lives as hip New Yorkers. The Kosanns introduce each set of recipes with personal stories that, while humorous, can drip with privilege (the sisters detail family vacations in Cabo that include parties at George Clooney’s place, and of getting Katie Couric to play an Uber driver for a video). The sisters’ day might start with a PB&J smoothie bowl and could end with a small crowd dining together on their House of Cards Ribs, inspired by the show’s fictional character Frank Underwood. The sisters offer plenty of recipes for vegetarians, such as a mushroom al pastor (made with portobello caps instead of shredded pork). The duo’s Green Goddess chicken club sandwich is seasoned with tarragon, chives, and anchovy paste, and inspired by “many, many room-service club sandwiches.” Elsewhere, the sisters tell of “cohosting a two-hundred-person” event at the Dream Hotel where they prepared their grapefruit margaritas. The sisters offer a view into a rarified life, but their recipes are solid and fun, and are sure to find their way into the kitchens of their growing fan base.
