Here, Fisher (Good Cheap Eats) shares new recipes for inexpensive meals that cook up quickly and serve four to six people. In sidebars accompanying recipes such as jambalaya pasta with sausage and chicken and decadence sundaes with caramel-lime sauce, she includes two-course menu suggestions and 101 time-saving tips. Busy cooks can easily tell which of her recipes are make-ahead, meatless, gluten-free, and freezer-friendly. VERDICT Fisher's compilation of soups, sandwiches, burritos, pizzas, and other courses is a practical guide to easy, everyday cooking. Looking to wow dinner-party guests? This might not be your go-to reference. But if you want to nourish your kids with chicken-noodle soup, pork chops smothered in onions, or crispy sage chicken strips, this is a perfect choice. Fisher offers up an assortment of mix-and-match two-course dinners as well as dozens of time-saving tips for make-ahead dishes. She also devotes a whole chapter to desserts that can be prepped while dinner's cooking.
