Silver, owner of the TriBeCa restaurant Bubby's and author of "Bubby's Homemade Pies", proves that brunch isn't just for Sundays anymore. Writing with Black ("The Kids' Holiday Baking Book"), he includes more than 20 special-occasion menu ideas and organizes his recipes into sections on baked treats, eggs, sandwiches and salads, and more. While there are many brunch cookbooks on the market, this one stands out with the variety of dishes presented. With helpful, practical advice for novice and seasoned cooks, plus history of the recipes. [Library marketing.]

Americans have virtually invented brunch, a meal thats more than breakfast, not quite lunch, and perfectly suited for a relaxing late-weekend-mornings repast. The restaurants name evoking memories of grandmotherly warmth and good eating, trendy Tribecas Bubbys Pie Company feeds New Yorkers an especially comforting brunch. Chef Silver has a reputation as a breakfast cook, so his egg dishes are the stars of the menu. For the home cook, Silver offers some carefully considered, sound advice on making perfect fried eggs, poached eggs, and omelets. When hash browns alone arent adequate, he embellishes them with asparagus. There are recipes for pancakes, waffles, breads, pastries, and sandwiches, too, from croque monsieur to classic BLT. Celebratory brunches demand fresh juices and punches, so Silver creates both alcoholic and plain drinks with only the freshest ingredients, going so far as to make his own cranberry juice.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2009, American Library Association.)
