Great-great-granddaughters of American etiquette maven Emily Post, Anna Post ("Emily Post's Wedding Parties") and Lizzie Post ("How Do You Work This Thing?: Advice for the Newly Independent on Roommates, Jobs, Sex, and Everything That Counts") provide lists and timetables for planning a party, and they cover invitations, party space, equipment, and help. For each type of party (e.g., cocktail, dinner, outdoor, or holiday), a few recipes are included. This book differs from most other party books by answering troublesome questions such as how to address an invitation to an unmarried couple, make proper introductions, and accommodate an unexpected additional guest. The Posts advise readers to think about each guest before the gathering to assure that everyone is given special attention. They focus on the comfort and enjoyment of guests and hosts, rather than the elegance or extravagance of the party.
