Preschool-G *Starred Review* This volume in the Food Field Trips series (6 titles), which is jam-packed with photos of delicious-looking strawberries, encourages critical thinking and audience participation. After a picture glossary lets readers know what to keep an eye out for, the book briefly but winningly explains what a strawberry is, when it grows, how it is used, and how it compares to other berries. The engaging text often speaks directly to readers, promoting interaction. "Which berries are the same color?" it asks over a spread of six different types of berries. "How many of these berries have you tried? Do you have a favorite?" When the photographs take us to a strawberry farm, the text encourages readers to "Pull back the leaves" to see the berries growing underneath, and shows how some are ripe and some aren't yet. Several strawberry-themed recipes, complete with QR code links, round out the text. Attractively designed and undeniably useful, this is a terrific resource for a developing audience.
