By following these 50 decorating designs, readers of all ages can easily turn store-bought cookies into eye-catching custom creations such as adorable acorns (made from nutter butter cookies, pretzel sticks, candy coating, and sprinkles) and pretty princess wands (made from star-shaped cookies, lollipop sticks, candy coating, and edible glitter). In each of these projects, Johnstone (lovefromtheoven.com) employs easy techniques similar to those used in Karen Tack and Alan Richardson's Hello, Cupcake! and Cupcakes, Cookies & Pie, Oh, My! For instance, frostings are melted and used as a coating, and candies and confections (sometimes cut into shapes) become colorful embellishments. VERDICT Johnstone's charming decorated cookies require minimal time and equipment and no baking. This is her debut title and a great resource for kid-friendly decorating projects and last-minute party favors.
