With home and craft brewing widely practiced, next-level direction will be welcome, and the authors bring more than 30 years of combined experience to this informative, playful guide. Beechum (The Everything Homebrewing Book) and Conn (contributor, Craft Beer for the Homebrewer: Recipes from America's Top Brewmasters) are accomplished brewers and serve on the American Homebrewers Association Governing Committee. While the heart of the work addresses experimentation, adequate coverage is given to basic ingredients, equipment, and techniques. The "Favorite Experimental Styles" chapter particularly reflects the book's utility by exploring these fashions, then adding variations so fellow brewers get a feel for moving from the known to the unknown. The final section, "The Experiments," highlights the science and community behind brewing and invites readers to "report...results and discuss them" at the book's website. The detailed index enables easier navigation of the text. VERDICT With this much talent on tap, readers won't be disappointed. Recommended for beginners (but not complete novices) and veteran home brewers who enjoy a challenge or want to experiment with their craft.--Meagan Storey, Virginia Beach
