Solomon (Jam It, Pickle It, Cure It) returns with a second volume of recipes aimed at the do-it-yourself set. For some, the DIY ethic stops at jam, granola, or candied citrus peels, but your yen for the homemade might extend to roasting your own coffee beans or grinding masa to make tortillas. Whatever the case, Solomon has it covered, with over 70 options for projects ranging from straightforward to somewhat complex. Each entry includes clear instructions, how long the items can be stored, recipe yield, and time commitment, along with introductory remarks on where to source the few less-common ingredients, ideas for gifting recipes, and general cook's notes. VERDICT Solomon's likable personality comes through, and she's a knowledgeable companion in the kitchen. You don't need a lot of cooking experience to find this book of projects fun, useful, and tasty. Recommended.--Courtney Greene, Indiana Univ. Libs., Bloomington
