If you are getting bored with cupcakes and wondering what the next new baking fad will be, this book--and a number of other recent titles, including Steven Gdula's Gobba Gobba Hey and Susanna Tee's Whoopies!--will certainly contribute to the growing interest in whoopie pies. A far cry from soggy packaged cakes held together with marshmallow glue, these recipes are cause for delight. Who knew a whoopie pie could be as simple as a dab of cake batter on a parchment-lined baking sheet? Former Chez Panisse pastry chef Ptak's Pumpkin Whoopie Pies with Cream Cheese Filling are especially intriguing.
