Noted Vancouver restaurateurs Dhalwala and Vij accomplish what Madhur Jaffrey does in At Home with Madhur Jaffrey--they simplify Indian cooking for North American home cooks without sacrificing the integrity of the cuisine. What sets this book apart is that the wife-and-husband authors put the recipes in the context of balancing the demands of work and family. It is especially appealing to read how the couple's children respond to some of the dishes and what the authors learned about how to satisfy a variety of palates. The book feels like a conversation between the authors and readers about the value of food and dining in our busy daily lives. The recipes should be manageable for cooks of many skill levels, and the suggested dish combinations and mouthwatering photographs will surely inspire.
