Since 1995, Brew Your Own magazine has been a resource for homebrewers. Their BYO Big Book Of Homebrewing provides a solid base for this title, which, following brief guidance about cloning, dives into its 300 recipes that replicate commercial beers. Some clone recipes from the first title are repeated, though duplicates may have slight variations in ingredients and/or measurements. While the scope of BYO Big Book of Clone Recipes includes Europe (e.g., Wychwood's Hobgoblin Dark Ale, Heineken), the emphasis is on American breweries. Recipes include classics such as Anchor Steam Beer and Dogfish Head's 60 and 90 Minute IPAs. They also expand to newer flavors and options, such as Wynkoop's Patty's Chili Beer and Deschutes's Gluten Free NWPA. Chapters are arranged by style and include standard ale and lager varieties as well as barley wine, sour beers, imperial stouts, and winter beers. Recipes provide extract and all-grain instructions; some include partial mash options. VERDICT Considering the growth of craft and home brewing, replicating established beers, as well as styles that have gained popularity, is a welcome challenge. As a straight "recipe" book, this title is best suited for the experienced homebrewer.--Meagan Storey, Virginia Beach
