The late Feynman's (1918-88) daughter, Michelle, has pulled together many of the theoretical physicist's quotes in this small but thick text that includes photographs. Feynman was well known for his diagrams illustrating subatomic particles' actions, his Nobel Prize-winning achievements on quantum electrodynamics, and especially for his work on the Challenger shuttle disaster investigation. The book boasts forwards by daughter Michelle, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and physicist and TV series host Brian Cox. Grouped in topical chapters, from "How Physicists Think" and "The Quantum World" to "Imagination" and "Love," many of the sayings are a paragraph or more in length, so this is not a Bartlett's-type source of pithy quotes. Some shorter references are scattered throughout, however, such as: "The thing that doesn't fit is the most interesting" and "Scientists are explorers, philosophers are tourists." Each quote is annotated with its source. Several are from published works, others are taken from private correspondence and thus offer new material from Feynman. VERDICT A recreational read, this book will satisfy anyone curious about the life and views of this creative man.--Sara R.
