A blogger and advocate of everything related to bicycling, Weiss (The Enlightened Cyclist; Bike Snob) uses passionate, smart, and witty prose to inspire and educate people interested in cycling. While targeting a broad readership, from novice to experienced cyclists, this work leans more toward beginning and less experienced bikers; not that one never needs to brush up. Organized into ten chapters, the author imparts knowledge on bike styles, buying tips, maintenance, operation, equipment, transporting your bike, city riding, competition, and riding with children, and concludes with his beliefs on the future of cycling. While there is some mention of cyclocross, fat tire, and mountain biking, the majority of this book is devoted to cycling in an urban environment. In that way, it is topically similar to Yvonne Bambrick and Marc Ngui's The Urban Cycling Survival Guide. While the illustrations are informative, a selective list of resources for readers seeking additional information would be helpful as would bike fitness training protocols. Index not seen at time of review. VERDICT For anyone with cycling interests, budding or otherwise.--John N. Jax, Univ. of Wisconsin Lib., La Crosse
