She Writes Press cofounder Warner (Green-Light Your Book; What's Your Book) is passionate about helping women publish their work. She mentors writers, runs a podcast for aspiring authors, and with this latest offering surveys the ways in which women writers have been viewed, treated, marketed, and reviewed over the past 50 years. Warner brings 20-plus years of experience into the discussion of voice in writing, offers examples of when women have been silenced, and describes the traditional and societal roles they are expected to fulfill. Her thesis--that now is the time for women to be heard--is compelling and contemporary. Her charge to have courage and claim a place at the table is lively. The most useful sections provide lists of women-only writing spaces and women's presses. Warner's examples, from Sappho to Michelle Obama, offer a broad reading list for younger readers. VERDICT Despite its tendency toward repetition, this is an overall welcome addition to larger literature and writing collections.--Pam Kingsbury, Univ. of North Alabama, Florence
