A conspiracy theorist's delight, Secrets From the Black Vault delves into the dark secrets of America's military and other federal organizations. Greenwald put a lot of time and effort into obtaining documents that are only available thanks to the Freedom of Information Act, which declassified several files previously unavailable to the general public. Some of Greenwald's revelations will be old news to the seasoned conspiracy buff, such as the CIA's MKULTRA project that involved mind control via LSD, or the Agent Orange deployment during the Vietnam War. But some stories may be lesser-known, such as German scientists' involvement in the space program after WWII or General Mills' balloon technology and its uses. Pictures of the documents in question pepper the pages to add authenticity and give credence to Greenwald's work, so it comes across as a legitimate expos rather than sensationalistic alarmism. This book will appeal to the most fervent conspiracy theorists and skeptics alike as it shines a light on many questions readers may not know they had.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2020, American Library Association.)
