A History of Ancient Rome

In this edition of The Modern Scholar series, Professor Frances Titchener surveys ancient Rome from its legendary founding after the Trojan War to the fifth century A.D. While Titchener is cursed with an irritating voice, she is able to make some music with it, for, as writer as well as speaker, she is blessed with a contemporary and informal way of expressing herself. Her 14 lectures speed delightfully by, even though many of the episodes seem to have been edited a bit too drastically. An attractive fullcolor booklet is equally informative and inviting. Y.R.
