All too relevant today, Geoffrey Canada's 1995 work recounts his violent childhood on the streets of the South Bronx. In it, he relives a brutal past in which he was stalked by youthful street gangs looking to engage in violence. Narrator Bill Quinn tackles the work with the gravity it deserves, using a deep resonance that affirms Canada's analysis of the social factors that have led to "America's war against itself." Quinn provides measured pacing for Canada's impassioned description of an inner-city "war zone" that cannot lead to PTSD because there is "no post." In conclusion, Canada examines current crime legislation, which could not be more timely, that may lead to greater safety and unity for our nation's children. The author is renowned for the documentary WAITING FOR SUPERMAN, a film promoting the effectiveness of charter schools. A.W. (c) AudioFile 2013, Portland, Maine
