Foodies will be excited to see d'Arabian, known from her work on the Food Network, in a new way. Here, she takes a step beyond pop-culture fame, sharing her Christian faith. D'Arabian has lived through faith-shaking hardships, including the loss of her mother to suicide when Melissa was 20. By sharing her challenges, inspecting them through the lens of faith and scriptural insight, and combining the experience of sharing food and the myriad ways God shows up at our table, she brings spiritual depth to her readers. The format is one of invitations, e.g., An Invitation into Compassion. Each chapter becomes part memoir, part bible study, and finally an offer to engage. Sometimes these are very simple: Next time you walk or drive by someone in need, give them the honor and dignity of your eye contact. Through her book, d'Arabian shows readers to a table where we see things through new eyes.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2019, American Library Association.)
