A logical follow-up and companion to Samuels' Run like a Girl: How Strong Women Make Happy Lives (2011), this volume is part memoir and part shared observations with a sprinkling of advice, arranged as a book of days. Contrary to the title, it's not solely about running but covers a variety of sports, fitness, and self-discovery topics, all explored from a woman's point of view. The entries for each day of the year vary in length from a half-page to a full page, with many featuring nuggets culled from Samuels' own experiences. Others range from inspirational quotations (Susan B. Anthony: I think [the bicycle] has done more to emancipate woman than any one thing in the world. ) to advice on such topics as self-compassion and a five-step plan to rid oneself of the toxin of self-criticism. A satisfying read that celebrates women's strength while delivering daily reminders to embrace the joy of getting outdoors and out of one's comfort zone.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2019, American Library Association.)
