Thompson's latest includes techniques and projects that are more complex than those she showcased in Fine Art Wire Weaving (2015). Requiring an existing level of expertise, Thompson aims to teach crafters how to create masterworks of sculpted jewelry that showcase workmanship and expert skill. Her introduction warns that the content is intended to challenge readers, who should be prepared to invest time into practicing. For those willing to make this commitment, 14 projects provide opportunities to work through Thompson's three elements for creating fine-art jewelry: sculpting, symmetry, and transformation (combining design elements for unique effects). Each project includes close-up color photos, lists of required materials and tools, and step-by-step instructions with detailed illustrations. The instructions are indeed complex (one step may include the use of five different tools) and will require both a facility with terminology and the ability to simultaneously employ multiple techniques.
