Artist Peter McGough doesn't hold back in this tell-all memoir of his early life and rapid rise to success with his partner, the eccentric David McDermott. McGough's witty delivery of narrative is loud and clear and is interspersed with wildly comical performances of McDermott and many other colorful characters. During the pre-AIDS art scene of the Lower East Side in the 1980s, McDermott and McGough practiced an outrageous lifestyle. They became hugely successful and very rich while hobnobbing with famous fellow artists, collectors, and gallery owners but then managed to lose it all when the art market crashed in 1990. McGough's tone becomes more serious when describing his profound gratitude as an AIDS survivor, when so many of his friends were lost to that tragic epidemic. J.E.S. AudioFile 2019, Portland, Maine
