Record producer and songwriter Rudy Prez expands his repertoire, with coauthor Noland, to include narrative nonfiction in this warm autobiography. His is a classic Horatio Alger tale featuring himself as an immigrant who actually does make it to the States to find the streets covered in gold, thanks to a lot of help from the man upstairs. Prez's story begins with his childhood in Havana at the cusp of the Cuban Revolution, on to his youth in Miami, and his eventual success in the music business on both coasts. He is a friendly, humble narrator, always acknowledging others' talents and contributions while confessing to the pitfalls that could have deviated his path were it not for his strong faith and love of God and family. Prez's tales about Jos Feliciano, Christina Aguilera, Natalie Cole, Beyonc, and many other renowned artists are a bonus. A voluminous appendix covers his recording history. An engaging addition to collections with patrons interested in Latin music, and a nice acquisition for readers who enjoy Christian life stories.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2019, American Library Association.)
