Weaver (Water My Soul) intends her latest book to be both memoir and educational guide to Mennonite culture. It describes how the author's four sisters, with multiple children in tow, meet every Tuesday at her parents' house to share, cook, and generally stay connected. Included among the homespun tales of sisterhood, parenting, chores, and prayers are a few recipes (walnut frosties are a keeper) as well as frequent albeit gentle references to the central role of religion. Most helpful are the appendixes, such as "FAQs About Old Order Mennonites," which highlight the limited avenues for education but also the joy of faith: "It's a way of life for us and can't be separated into a single subject." VERDICT A gentle reminder of life's simplicity.--Sandra Collins, Byzantine Catholic Seminary Lib., Pittsburgh
