AudioFile Magazine
George Newbern brings the cheery tone of sales talk to the narration of this highly technical audiobook, which doesn't fit and doesn't serve it. The book is often only tangentially about color. (Much time is spent on evolution.) Even a slower reading would leave most listeners lost, but Newbern, perhaps trying to energize the narration, is too quick and makes little jumps in tone and emphasis that result in comprehension being even harder. There is no sense that he understands what he reads. The text is hampered by careless, technically overburdened, and sometimes simply incorrect writing. Mixing a poorly edited text with an unsuitable reading results in large swaths of peppy gibberish studded with incorrect emphases and the authors' verbal mistakes. All but experts should skip this.
