After quitting his job as a doctor, novelist Story's (God's Country Club) husband made plans to hike the Pacific Crest Trail, 2,663 miles from Mexico to Canada. Reluctant to be apart from him during the six-month journey and looking for answers to unresolved issues of her own, Storey joined her husband on a physically and emotionally challenging journey. Moving back and forth in time, she weaves stories of her childhood, her distant relationship with her mother, and her 17-year marriage through the humorous, warm, and sometimes harrowing narrative of her adventures on the trail as she faces down a mountain lion, makes new friends in the trail community, and tests the strength of her confidence in her marriage.
