Popular during the Victorian era, paper weaving has faded into obscurity in most of the Western world--with the exception of Denmark and Norway, where it is as commonplace a craft as origami in Japan. The preferred medium for paper weaving is colored copy paper, which is both inexpensive and comes in a variety of colors, making it ideal for crafting. A series of basic projects intended to help novices develop the necessary skills starts the Scheppers' (creators of the PaperMatrix blog) book off; these projects are followed by thematic groupings of additional projects (e.g., love and friendship, celebrations, magic circus) and a final chapter featuring advanced projects for experienced paper weavers. The brightly colored paper makes even the most basic projects seem extraordinary, and the inexpensive supplies, combined with the authors' friendly "practice-makes-perfect" tone, result in paper weaving approachable for those new to the craft. VERDICT Paper crafters will be drawn in by the pretty pictures, but they'll find inspiration in what can be created using simple supplies and clever techniques.
