Jackson constructs a strong and steady performance that turns this deftly researched and thoughtful work into an inviting and fascinating lecture. Jackson is a remarkably consistent performer. He remains factual but, when needed, gives deference to the emotional issues of race and inequality. Rosenbloom seeks to humanize King by focusing on his career, accomplishments, and personal shortcomings as he faces a turning point in his activism. There are occasional surreal moments when--while quoting King--Jackson summons the oratorical authority, gravitas, rhythm, and grace that are synonymous with King, bringing a level of sublime authenticity to a deep dive into the psyche of an American hero.
