Quilted Celebrations

In her follow-up to the Christmas-themed Modern Holiday, quilter and fabric designer Murphy presents a selection of quilt patterns designed to commemorate an array of milestones, celebrations, and stages of life. The usual baby and wedding quilts are included, as well as some generic yet attractive quilts suitable for birthday and graduation gifts, but there are also quilts commemorating religious celebrations, such as first communion, confirmation, or bar/bat mitzvah; milestone anniversaries; and a celebration of life memory quilt. Murphy's interpretations aren't always literal, and for several of the projects, it's the quilt back that tells the story, with personalized details (such as a child's birthdate or a couple's wedding date) or messages of love and support. Murphy provides options for personalization, including transfer paper, handwriting with fabric-marking pens, and machine embroidery. A number of techniques are explored, and quilters of all skill levels will find the illustrated, step-by-step instructions easy to follow.
