Any fan of the Montreal Canadiens or the New Jersey Devils will be familiar with Robinson. During his 17 years with the Canadiens, he won eight Stanley Cups and earned three more while serving as assistant coach for the Devils. Besides setting numerous records, Robinson won some of the NHL's top honors, including the James Norris Memorial Trophy (twice) and the Conn Smythe Trophy. Here Robinson and cowriter Shea (hockey history, Seneca Coll.; Toronto Maple Leafs) add their voices to the bevy of recent hockey autobiographies (Mr. Hockey: My Story, Grant Fuhr: The Story of a Hockey Legend, Orr: My Story). Following a brief opening describing Robinson's childhood in rural Ontario and his junior hockey career, the majority of the book describes the player's years with the Canadiens. The writing style is conversational, which gives the reader a feeling for the emotions wrapped up in these stories. There are also chapters devoted to Robinson's brief stint playing for the Los Angeles Kings and Team Canada, his coaching career, his involvement with polo, and the retirement of his jersey in Montreal. VERDICT This insider's view of one of the great hockey dynasties will appeal to anyone who loves the game.--Sara Holder, McGill Univ. Libs., Montreal
