Dave Grohl--Times Like His

Dave Grohl is recognized as one of the hardest-working musicians. He plays multiple instruments and has collaborated with many bands but is best known for his roles in two iconic groups: Nirvana and the Foo Fighters. In this title, music writer James (French Connections: From Discotheque to Discovery; Moby: Replay; His Life and Times) chronicles Grohl's extensive career. While there are mentions of the artist's personality and personal life (he's a genuinely nice guy), the author focuses mostly on the music. However, readers will learn about his love for deprecating drummer jokes, his insecurities about singing and playing live, and his reaction to the death of friend and bandmate Kurt Cobain. There are reviews for Grohl's every tour, album, and side project through James's narrative and other sources, including quotes from Grohl himself. Ultimately, his compassion is illustrated through his inability to be idle from making music. VERDICT Foo Fighters fans and aficionados of rock music in general will relish this book.
