Though also published by Timber Press, this is not just a tweak of Carol and Norman Hall's Timber Press Guide to Gardening in the Pacific Northwest (2008). It's an almost entirely new book, now officially encompassing not only the traditional coastal Pacific Northwest but also the arid zone from the Cascades east to Idaho, a move that is certain to broaden this book's appeal. Bonine and Campion have skipped vegetable gardening altogether and reduced the number of varieties within each species listed, which frees space for the authors to significantly expand species coverage of perennials, shrubs, vines, and treeslistings that comprise two-thirds of the book. Each plant entry provides Latin and popular names, growing requirements, blooming period, height and spread, standard hardiness zones, and subregional zones, along with a generous narrative description and photo of the plant. Useful for libraries in the massive region of the U.S. that extends from the Pacific Northwest coast all the way east to the Rockies.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2017, American Library Association.)
