Readers looking for a brief glimpse into the life of “the most well-known man in history” will find much to appreciate in this thumbnail sketch. Kessler (Jews, Christians and Muslims), who received the Order of the British Empire for his efforts in interfaith relations, produced this slim volume for the Pocket Giants series of 128-page biographies of people who changed the world. Kessler honors “the diverse applicability of his teachings, as well as malleability,” noting that “there are more followers than any other religion (or secular ideology) in the world.” The book is organized into four chapters: the historical Jesus; his teachings, which suggest Jesus had a sense of humor; Christianity’s development, expansion, and adaptability; and how other faiths see Jesus. Those involved in interfaith studies in their places of worship, as well as those looking for general reference material, will find value in this slim volume.
