Grades 5-8 The Girls Rock! series features a kaleidoscope of professional women with bite-size tidbits on their careers, accolades, and paths to success. With colorful, splashy one- or two-page spreads with large photos and dynamic fonts, these entries offer brief summaries of women who excelled in their fields. Most of the ladies of Girls Star! should be recognizable to any movie or TV buff, but this volume helpfully includes the potentially less familiar Hattie McDaniel, Rita Moreno, and Sarah Bernhardt in addition to a few notable voice actors and executives heading major entertainment corporations. Though the information in each book is frustratingly brief and the back matter is notably slim on further reading suggestions, the sheer number of women profiled is enough to prove that girls really do rock.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2014, American Library Association.)
