Grades 4-6 Part of the American Revolution through Primary Sources series, this overview of the war, largely through information about major battles, makes for a fine introduction to the American Revolution. Originally published as How the Revolutionary War Was Won (2008), this has been extensively redesigned with new illustrations, many of them tagged as primary sources, including paintings from the time and photos of historical documents and weapons. Modern paintings of various battles are also used throughout. A helpful time line is included, although the information about Nathan Hale is odd since he is not mentioned in the text, and the material about the encampment at Valley Forge is placed in a way that is confusing. Still, though, this is a bright, spaciously designed, and quite readable book that will be appreciated by report-writing students.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2013, American Library Association.)
