Stories of fantasy adventure combine with interesting craft projects in this collection, presented as tales of the life of Sir Richard Barons, a 19th-century dragon hunter. The stories are pure pulp fantasy--appealing and timeless--and the crafts range from dragon eggs to faux vintage maps to steampunk-style dragon hunters' goggles. Barnardo (Made with Dad) makes intriguing use of hot glue as an embellishment rather than an adhesive--a creative technique that crafters may find useful, regardless of their feelings about dragons. The craft projects appear as a sidebar on most pages, which means that the book works well as a collection of dragon-themed adventures for noncrafters as well as a volume of crafts for dragon aficionados. Most of the projects are basic, and few require unusual or specialized supplies. While there are a lot of variations on the theme of "dragon eggs," the presentation and the narratives keep things from getting repetitive. VERDICT This clever collection will appeal to fans of fantasy and steampunk arts and crafts.
