People ride bikes for a variety of reasons, whether for leisure, fitness, commuting to work, sport, or simply to make our planet a better place. Biking fatalities do occur and the majority take place in urban environments. With increases in biking popularity comes the need for clear and insightful educational resources, especially in urban areas where riders have to share busy roads or streets with autos and pedestrians. Bambrick, a photographer, bike commuter, and biking advocate/consultant, has created a "how-to" guide for urban biking that aids novice and veteran cyclists alike. She competently covers topics relating to bike selection, safety, basic maintenance, security, riding etiquette, weather, accidents, navigating urban streets, riding with children or pets, and cycling advocacy. Her writing style shows passion and is easy to understand. A very small and selective list of resources is provided. VERDICT This modern guide is filled with great advice that will help people become more confident and educated bike riders. For all libraries.--John N. Jax, Univ. of Wisconsin Lib., La Crosse
