Gragg (history, Coastal Carolina Univ.; Covered with Glory) offers a look at how Judeo-Christian values were the basis for the founding of the United States. Numerous quotes from past sermons, letters, and Continental Congresses are interspersed throughout the production to support the author's belief that America was established as a religious nation. Narrator Maurice England's folksy Southern accent makes for easy listening. Recommended for listeners wanting a simple, unambiguous view of religion and its early impact on the nation. [The Howard: S. & S. hc was recommended for "lay readers seeking a shorter and less intensive work than Jon Meacham's far more in-depth American Gospel," LJ 6/1/10.--Ed.]--Deb West, Gannon Univ.
