Beckham gets an overview in this slim biography in the Amazing Athletes series. The book starts with Beckhams first game for the L.A. Galaxy; thats a bit awkward since he starts the game on the bench due to injury and ends it on the ground, "cut down by a sliding defender." Oh, well, back to the past, where short chapters move quickly through Becks childhood, his early days in soccer that soon morph into superstardom, and the trades that brought him from the Manchester United team to Spain and then to the U.S. Readers will be attracted by the books colorful design, incorporating bright pages alternating with white ones, and the many crisp photos. Theres probably not enough detail here for serious soccer fans, even young ones; butchildren who want just the basics will find them here.
