Grades K-2 The popular Who Was . . . ? series comes to the youngest set with this brightly colored board book, which begins with Martin Luther King Jr. as a churchgoing boy with a loving family and ends with his I Have a Dream speech. Throughout, the text emphasizes how King valued kindness, love, peace, and fairness, inspiring others to work for positive change. Racism is gently broached (but not named) by highlighting how Black people were treated unfairly and by discussing segregation in an afterword.
