Sister Sampler Quilts

Since 2013, Chany has hosted an annual quilt-along on her blog Gen X Quilters. Each year's quilt-along features a series of "sister blocks"--sets of two coordinating blocks that can be identical or contrasting. This book gathers Chany's first two quilt-alongs, Sisters' Ten and Vice Versa, along with a brand-new design, Bonfire. Each of the patterns includes both nine-inch and 12-inch finished blocks as well as modern-style settings for lap and large twin-size quilts. The majority of the blocks are based on traditional designs and are interchangeable between the two quilts, so quilters may mix and match to create a sampler of their choice. A series of tutorials provides an overview of quilting basics, such as achieving the perfect scant quarter-inch seam, and Chany's engineering background shows in the series of equations for cutting and piecing a variety of common patchwork elements, including half- and quarter-square triangles and flying geese. VERDICT Chany's quilt-alongs have been popular in the modern quilting community, and her fresh takes on traditional blocks will have wide appeal.
