A Soldier's Promise

This all-American story concerns the promise made by First Sergeant Daniel Hendrex, of the Third Armored Cavalry Regiment, to an Iraqi youth of 14 named Jamil. Forced into the insurgency by his abusive Baathist father, Jamil eventually gave himself up to the Americans and quickly became an invaluable intelligence source. When the Third Cav was rotated out of Iraq, Hendrex brought Jamil to Colorado Springs, where he now enjoys the life of an American teen. Lee Sellars is Hendrex. He speaks with the firm, controlled strength and confidence that an experienced NCO such as Hendrex would possess.
