The New York Beauty block is a showpiece, combining foundation piecing and curved piecing. Quilter Hentsch's version adds flying geese as well, increasing both the complexity and the options. The blocks are presented as a series of foundation-pieced arcs that are mixed and matched to achieve the desired effect, then combined with two template-based pieces to square off the block. Each block is incorporated into round throw pillows (which can easily be turned into square pillows if desired) and a full-size quilt. VERDICT Adventurous quilters will enjoy both the new take on the classic New York Beauty block and Hentsch's exploration of color in quilt design.
