Cappy, known for her "Yoga for the Rest of Us" program on public television, gears this book toward people who are interested in yoga but have physical limitations. Drawing on her 16 years of experience teaching yoga to senior citizens, she identifies many simple yoga stretches and postures that virtually anyone can do and modifies some of the more complex maneuvers so that, for example, an overweight person or an arthritis sufferer can still benefit. The book -s layout follows a typical yoga class, with breathing exercises, stretching exercises, balance poses, strength poses, reclined and seated stretches, and final relaxation (known as "savasana"). Instructions are concise and direct, and the more than 180 black-and-white photos that illustrate proper form feature models of all ages, shapes, and sizes. The poses can be done at home and require only a chair or folded blanket in some cases. In the introductory chapters, Cappy discusses the benefits that can be derived from yoga. An excellent addition to public libraries and academic institutions where physical therapy and physical education are taught." -Elaine M. Lasda Bergman, Healthcare Assn. of New York State, Rensselaer"
