The American Association of School Librarians published new information literacy guidelines, Standards for the 21st-Century Learner, in 2007. This companion document provides library media specialists with action examples of what these expectations look like when fully realized in school settings. Differentiated indicators provide pictures of how the four main standards should be interpreted, and then benchmarks (concrete descriptions of student behavior) are provided for grades 2, 5, 8, 10, and 12. Learner-centered lesson plans include sample scenarios, instructional activities and projects, and assessments for final products, processes, and student growth. Information is laid out in user-friendly, easily accessible graphic organizers, rubrics, and flowcharts. This hands-on manual is an essential tool for all school media specialists and should be a required component of teacher and library media preparation programs.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2009, American Library Association.)
