Each book in the Community Connections: How Do They Help? series profiles one or two young people who wanted to help others, describes how their efforts evolved, and looks at the ongoing work of their charitable organizations. Each double-page spread includes paragraphs of large-print text and a colorful photo, while sidebars carry additional details, comments, and questions. The clarity and matter-of-fact tone of the writing add to the appeal of the kids' stories. Jessie Rees Foundation tells of an 11-year-old girl who, while undergoing treatment for brain cancer in 2011, began cheering up hospitalized children with goodie bags.
