Gr 3-5-Tales of exploration and amazing feats in science and adventure should make these titles a hit. The facts are basic, but are presented in an enjoyable manner. "Did you know?" bubbles give readers information in short, interesting sentences. The captions for the photographs are presented in a graphic-novel style that helps enforce new vocabulary such as "crampon," "felucca," and "glaciers." The pictures also show the people, places, and transportation vehicles used in the various eras. Appended time lines help readers see the events in a concise, summarizing format, and maps aid comprehension. The key features plus well-written passages make these books excellent additions, especially for reluctant readers.-Rachel Artley, Watertown Elementary School, TN
