Gr 3-6-This very brief account focuses on the 13-year-old's surfing encounter with a shark that resulted in the loss of her left arm and her return to the waves less than a month after the accident. The author mentions that the teen wants to make a difference in peoples' lives, and that she traveled to Thailand to meet with children who lost their families because of the tsunami and helped raise funds for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Each double-page chapter includes a few paragraphs of large-print text and two full-color, captioned photos. Words found in the glossary are highlighted in bold.
