K-Gr 2 -"Statue of Liberty" describes the history of the monument in spare prose. Bauer does a good job of linking readers to the text by describing the role schoolchildren played in raising money for the statue's pedestal. The illustrations are soft, yet colorful enough to engage the audience. In "Columbus", Kurtz weaves biographical information about the man into a simple rhyming text.
