Grades 3-6 Plumley and Lisle, authors of the popular kids' crafting titles Sewing School (2010) and Sewing School 2 (2013), turn their attention to yet another needlecraft in this wordy but very informative guide to the art of quilting. They stick to their tried-and-true formula of having actual kids create and model the craft projects, which makes even the more challenging projects seem accessible to young crafters. The techniques are kept simple, so that kids can do them even if adults aren't available to help. For example, there is no mention of rotary cutters, the ubiquitous but dangerous tool used by most quilters. Instead, kids are taught how to trace patterns and cut with scissors. For those without a sewing machine, hand-stitching techniques are addressed. There are three projects per chapter, each a different difficulty and each building a specific skill. The directions are clear, easy to follow, and encouraging, making this a great choice not only for kids longing to create but also for those who want to help them learn to sew and quilt.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2018, American Library Association.)
