AudioFile Magazine
Professor Sengoopta, a senior lecturer in the history of modern medicine and science at the University of London, gives 14 scripted lectures that explore Darwin, his ideas, and the storm of controversy they caused. The complexity of the course's scope may be daunting to a student new to the subject. The lecturer's native language--the English dialect spoken in India--involves differences in speech sounds (no "r's") as well as in how syllables receive their accent (for example, pronouncing "genesis" as "gen-EH-sis"). Even though the teacher doesn't rush, some listeners may find the accent distracting. The package contains an eighty-page booklet with lecture outlines, probing questions, and a bibliography of 132 references. J.A.H. (c) AudioFile 2005, Portland, Maine
